All,

I have been wanting to upgrade my 75 gallon reef for some time but have been debating what I should do. I currently have a 240 PC running. I am mainly keeping Softies and a few LPS, but want to upgrade to some SPS, and a more LPS. Since I already bought the PC's, I do not want to get rid of it. So here is my idea. I was going to purchase one of these (maybe two) (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=15489&N=2004+113352) in which I will use in addition to the PC. I think this would be acceptable. I was wondering what anyone else thinks of this?

I would say that it does suck to have to buy new lights, but I would think you need the single powerful light to have the intensity you need to reach the corals. If you just add a few less powerful lights together, I would think its not like combining the two, more like putting alot of intensity in the top part of your tank with not alot of it reaching the bottom as neither of the fixtures can reach the bottom. Just what makes sense in my mind, could be completely wrong....

As far as the corals are concerned it would be acceptable. Those ones are really expensive though. Do you have a hood or is it open topped?

It is an open top. I actually went out and bought this fixture (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=15489&N=2004+113352), and it looks to be good for the tank. I saw this same fixture on a dealers tank that looked incredible. The only thing now is that I need to keep the temp down.
