Hey all! I'm new here and I want to start off with a question...I recently bought a P. Delhezi for my 75 gallon. I'm not sure that he is getting the amount of food he needs because everything I put in my other fish get first. I've tried to overfeed just a little bit so enough sinks to the bottom so the Delhezi can pick it up, but it's not seeming to work. What are your methods for feeding your bichirs?

Heres some options
move it to a smaller tank to growout some
make a feeding tube from a piece of PVC and use it to spot feed the bichir using sinking pellets broken into
halves and bloodworms as they will sink also.

Bichirs especially young ones like yours are not very agressive feeders and its being outcompeted for food
also its expending lot of energy getting to the surface of a full 75 gallon tank that it could be using for growth

My method of raising very young bichirs is simple I use a ten gallon tank to grow them out in.This allows me to keep track of food intake and growth rate and also since they are the only fish in the tank it elimantes compitition for food. Also i feed several small meals instead of 1 or 2 big meals> once they get 6-7'' I transfer them to either their display tank or to a 20 gallon long for further growth-Anne

Ok...the extra tank was a no go, but I like this idea about spot feeding him. I'm going to try it I'll give you an update in the next couple days. By the way thank beblondie for your help!

A couple days weren't needed for the update lol. He chomped down all he could eat of blood worms.

my little one cant get enough blood worms.blondie what do your adult delhezi like to eat the most??do you feed them fish?

They get a variety of things silversides, shrimp, quality pellet, earthworms and ghostshrimp and bloodworms
with a day sometimes 2 of fasting and guppies after they have gone thru quarantine-Anne

i own a p. senegalu

he is about 4 inches
he is in a tank with an oscar and clown loaches
