what type of material are you thinking of using to create them? Maybe placing rocks on top of each other, something like that?

have you got a pic of something you are trying to copy?

Not really trying to copy anything Just curious if I could use clay and form things bake them and paint it was thinking about going to creak and get some shale I know I have to clean it and boil it along with removing sharp spots But I'd like to get a little more creative than that hands on

i would assume that so long as you use waterproof, non-toxic paints you should be OK. I think the other thing that would be worth monitoring would be your pH levels. If you have got a water test kit, you could try some tests by putting some clay etc in some water and testing the pH to see if anything changes (and see if there are any unwanted changes in the colour of the water)

I have no idea if clay is aquarium safe. I am GUESSING so because it should be inert, but I've never heard of someone using it.

I have read that aquarium safe 'paints' are available, not seen them though. Anything else should be avoided as they can contain all types of chemicals that could harm your fish.

Ok thanks I guess first thing to do is (find) buy paint then make, bake, paint and then put in its own take to see what happens

actually, clay plant pots are used all the time in aquariums so clay should be fine.

Found this if anyone is interested http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-decoration/17.asp Pretty neat I think
