i have just bought a second hand 8g tank for £10 for fry extc. I think i read if i put my filter from my other tank you want have to cylce it, and have i done this right so far i have put under gravelfilter in, cleaned all ornuments and put them in and filled it up and put the water conditioner in. getting gravel tomorrow and ordering filter and heater. thnx cky

If you've moved the filter from your 'other' tank what is filtering the 'other' tank?
The best way is to run the new filter in your old tank alongside the main filter to 'cure' the foam for about 2-3 weeks then transfer it to your new tank. The new tank would then be cycled, but you should keep an eye on nitrite and ammonia levels.

spot on :good:

I like i said cky, you could take some of the old filter media (the sponge) and add it to the other filter in the new tank. As the fry will produce no where near as much waste as your other fish a little bit of media would be fine.

If you have the time you can leave the new filter in the old tank for a few weeks for it to cycle like said above.

:good:

ok thnxs alot

You can use water from the other tank to fill up the smaller one!

AQUAKING

water carrys no bacteria so is pointless

which you dont want nitrates are a waste product

I said FREE from nitrates not FULL of!
yes i have done that if it helps read it off a topic and thought that i should try it. got some gravel and a heater so all i need is a filter wich is coming tommorow ,would it help when i clean my filter out in my other tank to to squeeze some of the bateria and all the poop into my other filter sponge?

it only helps to keep the same type of water for the fish so its not such a shock.

the water has no bacteria like has been sed and unless it was taken jus after a water change then it probably WILL contain nitrates.

thats where most of it is :good: (the good bacteria).

there also some in the gravel and you can use that in the new tank.

if the new tank has sand or a different gravel then put some in a stocking and put that in the tank. makes it easy to get it out again without messing up your sand. :good:
