I have just added three albino corys to my tank. It seems that my two red swordtails are picking on them and not really nipping them but chasing around and maybe trying to get the corys fins.

Is this normal when you add new fish to old fish? Or is this a breed issue???

Thanks.

Were the swordtails the only fish in the tank? If so, they're most probably making sure that the cories know who's the boss. They should settle down in a day or so. Just make sure that the cories have hiding places - they like to settle down together in a cave or something similar.

This happened to me a few months ago. I had corys already and added one male swordtail to my tank. This guy terrorized my corys and platy... even ended up stressing one of the corys to death. Had to return the swordtail.

Are your swordtails both male? If so, then you could be in for some trouble. I've found that the male species tends to get aggressive when kept without female companionship to occupy their attention.

If you have one male and one female, then maybe you should add one or two more female swordtails... that will keep the male busy. :hey:

I have two females and no males. It has been a couple of hours and it looks like they are a little more relaxed as the Corys have settled into their new caves and hiding spots.

I was hoping to move my beta in also....hopefully I don't have the same problem.

I'd watch that betta if you decide to put in there, he might kill some of your fishy when you least expect it.....

I would really like all my fish together, but maybe I'll hold back. Especially if it means that one of them will turn into fish food. I think I will hold off. And I don't want to be limited to adding more fish in the future.

Looks like the Swordtails are slowly getting to know the other little guys...

Thanks.

I keep looking at bettas at my lfs (they're beautiful) but they often times go very poorly with larger livebearers. Their beautiful fins are a huge target for nippers, and bettas don't like to move a lot, so that doesn't help matters. My swords never even bothered the cories or any fish outside the species, so I would say that the betta with your swords may not be good match.

You can always put the betta in and observe with a net handy in case things get outta hand.
