I have put in a wet dry filter for my 45 gallon aquarium that has been running on a cannister filter for about 1 and a half years. How long should I wait before I disconnect the cannister filter? How long does the new one need to cycle before it can run on its own safely? I was thinking of doing it this weekend which would be two weeks from its initial start up. Right now they both are running.

Then you should be just fine to go ahead and take off the other filter whenever you want at this point
