hi i today purchased a male fighter, im a bit nervous as i thought they were quite active and more mid to top dwelling fish, hes in a 190l tank, but has spent a fair bit ogf time either swimming round the bottom of the tank or hiding and squaring himself off under rocks, is this natural behaviour, anything i should be worried about? i tested the water this eve, ammonia read between 0 to 0.25 nitrate 5.0 and nitrite 0, appreciate the help guys, be gentle if iv done something seriously wrong :-/

Give him a bit of time to settle in. Even though my boys are all settled, it's certainly not unusual to catch them at the bottom of their tanks. My CT is such a lurker, lol. He likes to hide beneath the lower leaves of one of his plants. He'll dart out when someone goes near him!

he died yesterday, absolutely gutted, must have been the ammonia, gonna change the water everyday until i get it down to zero, i have a juwel trigon 190, second hand, the filter doesnt have all the suggested media in it comparing to the juwel handbook, im hoping once i can sort that it might help, not going to do it all at once though

if your aquarium has nothing in it now i would empy it out and clean it up with some fresh water rinse it out and then re fill the whole thing also wash the substrate 2nd hand tanks and equipment should always be treated as if it has disease this way it will always be clean :D let your tank cycle a week or 2 and try and get all of the media you need for your filter ( dont replace it all keep some good bacteria) :D let us know how you get on :D

ok thanks for the advice, i also took some water into a petstore today for a test, second opinion sort of thing, i do tests myself, they said my levels were very good, only difference in my water to theirs was the ph slightly high going towards 7.6, is the best way to combat this through water changes or certain filter media? iv noticed differences in the media already in the filter compared to images of juwel filter set ups

im unsure of how to reduce the ph i think some lime materials but there is some parts to the forum for water ect mabe have a look there :D
