As some of you may know I recently lost Cathy, my female betta, due to a bacterial outbreak in one of my tanks. I purchased this one today but what type is it? Excuse the cat biscuits  She is very red and the tail seems to be roundish :dunno: I'll try to get one of her flaring, if she will. She has gone into a 7.5 gallon tank with 6 dwarf red rasboras.
Hmm I'm liking the idea of a tank of red fish :)

would really need to have a close up of her tail edges to determine if she is a hm or ct. females are hard since if you can rule out the ct, then you are left wondering if she is a hm or plakat type. are you sure that it is in fact a female? could also be a plakat male, since females are hard to find for sale in lfs here in the states.

and yes, i realize that you are in the uk. :p don't know the availability of females in the uk lfs. males are usually more desirable for sale in lfs since they have the longer finnage.

Yes i would go along with that, its possible without a better picture to be a plakat male.........this male was 11 weeks old when taken

A close up will be nigh-on immpossible with the bad camera I have.
I will try. :/

I'm sure its a female as it was in a tank full of them at the lfs,
anyway thanks to those that have offered an opinion.
