This morning she still looks really stressed. Everything is normal and she's active. She just has really dark horizontal bars. I put her next to some males for about 2 hours today thinking maybe she would stripe up but I got nothing.

Is this normal?

She probably just needs a couple more days to settle in. Does she have enough places in the tank to hide?

yea i heard before you said that they where stress bars, i have bettas with horizantal stripes and there fine. i believe its natural

I have a female who spends most of her time barred up, and I've had her for 6 months. Never sick... never showing any signs of a problem... she's just neurotic I guess. :)

One of my female's has stripes. Could someone show me the difference between a normal striped female betta and one that has the stress bars?

In the case of Jack, he's always got horizontal bars there under his rusty red and blue. It's just if his colour pales out and the bars get darker that I know he's stressed...that is generally if I haven't fed him as often as he likes to be fed! :p

My daughter has a gorgeous female Betta that is jewel blue and green and it took that girl days to settle and not show up as mainly barred. Maybe like some horses, some Bettas are just more nervous in temperament and more likely to bar up? Erk, I don't mean horses bar up, ROFL  ...I meant nervous in nature!
