I have a rio 400 that has a fluval 405 running alongside the jumbo internal but i now have a eheim 2180 to take the place of the internal.

Now i have the media set for the eheim which is 12litres worth of ceramic balls and tubes it also has 1.5l of sponger filtering above that. My question is this

should i put the sponge from the internal in the spare tray of the fluval (not used incase needed for carbon) cut up into pieces and let the eheim use its entire volume of bacteria media or, put the sponge in one tray of the eheim and after a month replace with the remainder of the media.

either way i cant see it being aproblem

I think your be ok to put all the media from your internal into the spare tray. Should be able to remove that after 2 to 3 weeks.

Cheers Gordon

Put all the media in, and remove it in a few weeks (or when you 1st clean the filter)
This will seed your new filter nicely
