Hi guys,

I just took delivery of my new 200L tank this week (will post pics when i can) and have installed a Eheim 2126 thermo filter.
Every thing seems to be up and running without to much trouble but i d seem o have a little air in the system.
Is this normal?
This is my first time with an external filter so i do not know what to expect really. When the stystem is running at full flow there is a small amount of air cmming out of the spray bar which i have positioned vertically in one corner of the tank. It is all submerged. The air coming out is in very VERY fine bubbles almoost like sand grains.
If i throttle back the flow rate and thn increase to full power again i get loads of air comming out in very big bubbles. The system is also slightly noisier with the flow rate pulled back to about half way.
The input to the filter is situated well away from the output in the opposite corner.

Is this normal? I am thinking it may right itself in time as it has only been running to 24hrs but as i say i am new to externals so i hope you can give me some better advice.

Thanks very much for your help

Jon

It's normal. It will eventually go away. Just make sure you fill the filter with water properly then prime it.

Thanks for the reply.

The instructions are a bit crap to be honest. It says nothing about filling the filter with water first. In fact in a PDF i downloaded from Eheim it says not to do this.
In the same PDF it says that the inlet pipe should be out of the water when priming the unit so it can vent properly BUT in my instructions it says nothing of this.

So can you see why i am confused? When i set the thing going both the input and output were submerged and i just kept pressing the plunger until the canister felt full. Once i acheived this i plugged in and away it went.....is this ok?

Also is it normal for the unit to make more noise with a reduced flow rate?

Thanks again, i apprieciate the help.

ya ur spray bar has to be drained of water and so does ur canister and then open the shutoff valves of the pressure hose and the inlet and its that easy , mine works well...if u dont have have a shutoff valve on ur hose...this is dangerous but open ur canister lid and the air will get out and water fills in but close it immediately or ull have a messy floor...i know trust me

I had a 2126 too-air was a real problem, in fact once there was so much air in it that the impeller was running dry! That filter developed a fault-I got another one and the heater failed this week. I was never happy with the filter so replaced it (today in fact) with a Tetratec EX 700.

Filling the canister filters first makes it easier, that sometimes I hardly have to prime them. I use a Eheim Pro II 2128, several Eheim Eccos, and a Rena Filster XP3 filter.

Have you still got the air problem? Since replacing mine with the Tetratec I havent had a single air bubble.
