Hello,

I have recently added two zebra danios to my fish tank. They are great to watch - lightening fast & playful, but they do seem to be going after my tetras and one in particular is being bullied and has taken to hiding under a rock, stopped eating etc. A second is showing signs of having had its tail repeatedly nipped. I am not sure whether the fish I have will adjust to their new buddies or if I should take them back to the shop.

What do you think?

I have a group of 18 Zebra Danios in my tank, they are schooling fish and should probably be kept in larger groups than two. They might chill out a bit more if they are in a shoal. Would your tank take more of them?

I agree with the poster above me. They are reccomended to be in groups of at least five, but the more, the merrirer. If there are more of them, than they probally wont be picking on the other tetras and such, and just stick to playing with other danios.

I bought 2 a year ago and they were so troublesome! Bought a third and it solved my problems. They need to have 3 at the very least. This way not one fish at any given time is being pestered. They sort of take turns chasing one another around and are less likely to bother your other docile fish.

Thanks everyone for your quick reply. The tank is definately too small for them, though I wasn't told they needed a big tank when I got them  Anyway, they were nipping my tetras and being real bullies, so I took them back to the shop today. All sorted :) Thank you!

i bought 4 and 3 of them beat up on one LOL

so I am going to buy 6 more, they are really good fish to watch
