I just bought my first cories yesterday for my 14 gallon tank. Ever since I put them in they have been swimming around like crazy, going to the surface and then jetting back down to the bottom and just repeating this over and over.

I thought it was just because they weren't used to the tank and they would settle by morning but I'm sitting here and they are still doing it. Is this normal Cory behaviour?

I only have live plants in the tank...are they looking for a hiding spot?

The tank is cycled and houses 4 other bettas and a adf frog.

Thanks :)

Get used to it. Some days they may be calm, but this is normal. ;)

Scrounging for anything and everything they can find, going up for air and doing it all over again. :p

What type of corydora do you have? In my tank I've notice that my spotted corydora stays at the bottom and is very calm (might be either a species thing or because it is old) whereas my albinos are crazy when sifting the gravel or when swimming around at high speeds near the surface.

Same here for the most part. My Albinos are the most active up and down swimmers whereas the rest tend to stick to the sand. Occasionally at night or when the lights are low, some of my Peppered swim around midlevel in the tank for a few minutes, usually in the current from the air wands.

my pandas are demented, they are up and down the glass all day, or swimmming mid-water in formation, or chasing tetras. Ithink it's normal, they're just full of the joy of life. :D

my albino corys are very lively. there either searching the gravel for food or darting about but they always stay together.

Yeah I have 3 albino corys:)

Ok so it's a good sign then that they are spastic little guys lol  Yeah they are always swimming up and down and all around. :D

What are calmer corys then? I have a new tank being set up and I want to add some to it...ones that stay at the bottom?

I have two julii cories who tend to hang at the bottom quite a bit. The only time I see them really active is feeding time. ;)

julii cories ok I'll look around for those :)

There is a big fish store about 20 mins away I know they have a huge variety of cories!

Thanks! :D

Hi Elisabeth83 :)

Most corys are most active when they are young and tend to calm down when they mature. I have two tanks full of young albino corys that seem to be active much of the time. You should see what a whole school of them looks like!

Of all the different kinds of corys I have, IMHO, the albinos are most active.
