I bought 3 cory cats from the store on saturday and not sure how to raise them. I have them in a 20 gallon tank with 7 tiger barbs. The problem is, how do I feed them? I have flake foods and a whole LOT of turtle pellets. Every time it seems when I try to feed these cats flakes, each shred of flake is eaten before it gets a chance to fall down. Is there something I can feed out of the fridge?? such as lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, etc. If yes, I will be so happy x_x thank you for reading. ;)

let this be a lesson to you... LOOK UP YOUR FISH BEFORE YOU BUY AND DO NOT IMPULSE BUY !! LOL

feedign wise, corys will not eat cucumber, lettuce( which is devoid of any nutrutional value anyway) and defo not carrots (they can see well enough in the dark with their barbels hehehe

I would suggest you go out and buy some tetra tabimin. If you need to feed them now, then finely chopped earth worms will do or some flake.

What kinda corys you got outta interest? You may be better off buying at least one more of the same sort as well as they like to be in groups of 4+ :)

Corys are not vegetarians unlike many plecs, though some of them will have a munch on peas if there are leftovers, but no particular reason to feed it to them. If you want to give them a treat on top of the catfish tablets mentioned by Spooky, a weekly or twice-weekly snack of bloodworms would go down well. Either live or frozen or jellied.

Yeah, and live blackworms seem to be even better...

thanks for the replies!! :)

oh but I did! I knew before hand that they were hardy fish and excellent fishes to add to a tank that's already established... so that's why I was excited to buy them :p

I can forget about worms though. =/ tiger barbs will eat them before the cories get a chance to. i am 97% sure of that. that is, if you're talking about bloodworms, microworms. how about mealworms and stuff like that? I have tried putting one there and the other fish won't touch it!

If you don't mind putting your hands in the water, release the food for the cory's down at their level if you think the other fish will eat it before it gets to them. I have started using the bottom feeder variety wafers by tetra too. These take a while to break down so can't be eaten easily by fish on the way down. You should have seen my apistogramma trying to eat one whole the other day though. He tried, but failed!!!!!

Those wafers sound great! What brand would you suggest?

They're called Tetra Variety Wafers. The packet has pictures of various catfish and cory's on it.
