Hi All,

I just bought a load of live rock from eBay and it came with some soft corals and tube worms on it. One of the tube worms measured about 10cm across when fanned out - it's pretty impressive. I have a common soft coral (don't know the name bu it's brown and you see it everywhere) and some green mushrooms which look neon under my blue actinic!

I hadn't planned to keep corals, but they're sooo pretty!

So, my question is,

1. Do I need to up the lighting? (I have a luminaire with T5s not currently employed, and if I get these out, how many hours a day?)

2. What do I feed the corals and tube worms?! This is perhaps the biggest worry. They look OK at the moment, but then they've only just gone in.

Thoughts, anyone?

Whats the rating of the Luminaire ??

The Fans will collect frood from the wtare coloum but you can get specific food if you require
Corals will take there energy from your lighting

As chac pointed out, fan worms gather food from the water by filter feeding. Other corals do require feeding, some dont, and rely soley on the products of their own photosynthesis. You need to know what coral you have in order to establish what care it needs in the way of lighting. T5 lighting should be on the same light schedule as your current lighting, with no change.

I'm not sure - there's 4 T5s a metre long. I think the tubes are pretty old though, so may need replacing. I'musing 2 T8s at the moment

4 T5's spanning the length of the tank would be more than enough for softies. You could probably even get away with two tubes. LPS work great under 4 T5s. If you want to go SPS in the future, halides, or 6-8 T5 tubes should be considered
