Hi....
I had a friend who moved across country and i ended up adopting her 2 small convict's....one is about 1.5 - 2" and the other is about 1". I've added them to my tank with 6 tiger barbs and 1 red tailed shark. Has anyone done this before? They both have pink on there bellies and from what ive read thats means they are females...and the pink will become brighter during spawn...also aggressive. Is this only if there are fry...and can 2 females be kept in the same tank.??

These are probably real stupid questions....but i cant seem to get answers :D

Thnx for any replies

Yup Two females.

As long as you don't put in any males, thery should not be very aggressive. I kept a breeding pair with my tiger barbs and never lost any so two females should be ok. Can't comment on the shark but female cons kept without males are nowhere near as aggressive as males or a pair would be

I agree the female cons should be ok, Even lay eggs :hyper: But not hatch because theres no male, Trust Me that has happend,

So will i have to get rid of the eggs?...or will that just "happen" :p .
The larger she-convict chases the smaller female around...also the bigger one is a real dark blue with darker stripes...and the smaller one is a real light blue...maybe pink....could she be a cross??......or do the darken as they get bigger..

again thnx for any replies

theyll jus eat the eggs... shouldnt be a problem... hopefully you got some passive females.. i have 1 psycho female that attacks everyone

just for insurence I think that everyone that has posted is right and there should not be any problems.

We'll the larger female convict is much to agressive...ive put her in my 10 gallon sick tank...i've found someone who has an empty 30 gal...which will be devoted to this mean little con. :) ....shes stressing the little one out and my shark. Will the one female be ok by herself....??

Thnx for the help

Why not just add a male and devote the tank towards breeding convicts???

They are a great fish to breed and watch rear their young.

You just need a plan for the fry. Either someone to give them to, a LFS to drop them off at, or plop them in your other tank as feeders

thnx for the replie mustang.... that sounds like a good idea...but i wanted this tank to be more of a community....and plus i have no where for my barbs and shark..the smaller convict actually swims with my barbs...and is always swimming about...but the other hides and only comes out to chase around...shes already taken half the tank...none of the others go there cause she'll dart out and chase em....nice fish but not what i wanted...

Thnx again for the replie mustang :D

Plus i got her a home where she can rule the WHOLE tank :flex: Plus my friend intends to do what u suggested... :hyper:
