Hi,
I am new. I have been doing alot of reading here. I was reading the above topic on tail types. I have seen alot of posts listing the # of rays. How do you count them/ What are you counting? I'm not even sure what type my 2 males are. Ihave been having trouble. How do I post pics??? :dunno:

THANKS

To count the rays or atleast to see what we are talking about, get a flashlight and shine it from behind your bettas tail and point it towards you so the light shines through it. The rays look like veins in a leaf and start with one and will split into 2 normally, and depending on what type of tail you have, the rays will divide into more rays. Viels normally have 1 or 2 rays. Deltas and halfmoons can have up to 32 rays, but they have to have atleast 2 or 4 ? to qualify. Anybody know what # is correct for minimum on a delta fish? :dunno:

Hi,
I think I now understand. At first I thought everyon was counting the thicker lines.
With the flashlight, I see all the little ones in between the big ones. Now do I just count in between 2 of the thick lines, or all the lines on the tail? (Thick and thin, from tip, to tip) If I only count between 2 thick ones, do I include the 2 thick ones, or just the thin ones in between?

THANKS

Here is a picture of one of my Singletail halfmoon females that if you look can see the rays really well. She has 8 rays total, but you may not be able to see the last detail where the rays break at the ends. Hope this helps.
