Hi to everyone here.

Me and my girlfriend are wondering what type f fish we can add to our tank, as we dont want to stick with just goldfish. We would like some unusual occupants to share the home of our current fishy friends. My girlfriend likes the idea of a small frog or two and some other peculiar occupant that can co exist with our fish and its enviroment. I like the idea of shrimp helping to keep down the mess of the goldfish and possibly some smaller type fish like minnows or some such. Im asking because I have heard some horror stories when introducing new fish when they arent compatible with the current occupants or that they in time become a problem when mature.

Could anyone suggest a few new occupants bearing in mind the above that would all get along, remember that they dont have to be beautiful just interesting. Oh and something that isnt going to grow to huge proportions

I will provide the details of what I currently have so you can suggest possible additions.

Current Fish

1 Veiltail Black Moor
1 Fantail Bubble-eye
1 Comet
All the above are around 1 1/2 to 2" including fins and get along together wery well. Had them now for 2 months

Tank Setup

I have a 75Ltr tank, we have had it now for 3 months.
A TETRATEC HT100 thermostatic heater keeping the tank at a constant 70 degrees.
An Elite Stingray 15 internal filter
An Airstone with a JAD 2.0L per min output airpump
2 Plastic plants (long stranded type)
1 Large plastic tree root system decoration.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S if you think that the above tank setup needs some tweeking then please be free to speak your mind.. Im a beginer after all and need all the help I can get. :good:

Your tank is really too small for all those fish. The fancy goldfish grow large and require up to 20 gallons and more each when around 5 or 6 inches long. The comet can grow to over a foot in length given the room but sadly many remain stunted in smaller tanks.
Comets and double tailed fish shouldnt really be together as the comet is a lot faster at getting food and may bully the other two. If you put anything small like shrimps or minnows then the comet is going to hunt them down.
If you want other types of fish then I suggest rehoming the comet and investing in a 30 gallon tank and then you could get some minnows.

Hi Black Angel, thanks for the quick reply.

We have friends who have a pond in their garden where the goldfish can be rehomed when they become larger so that wouldn't be a problem. The comet is rather skitish and dosn't pester the two fancy goldfish at all. As far as food goes they all get their fair share, the two fancy ones taking the flakes while its on the surface and the comet as the flakes are sinking down. I did try pellets once but the comet dosnt seem to like them so the fancy ones get all the food.

On that basis why type of fish would be recomended with that size tank if I wanted to have more than just three? (keeping in mind that the goldfish can be rehoused in a pond) A larger tank is out of the question as the 75L one we have is very dominant in our small living room as it is.

You could only put the comet in the pond not the fancies. The comet couldnt go in anyway until the late spring and then he could have time to fatten himself up for the winter. I keep all my goldfish in a pond and even the fantails. The fantails winter in the garage as the pond temps would kill them (200 gallons for 4, 5 inch fantails).
If you got the comet into a pond in the spring then the two fancies on their own would still be too many fish for the tank.
I wouldnt personally recommend any more fish for your tank.

Maybe a weather loach if you want bottom fish. Or a small shoal of 4-5 white cloud minnows, by the sounds of it the goldfish will be rehomed befor they get big enuf to eat the minnows (buy medium size ones to begin with). Id go with the loach.

Id loose the comet if wanting to add any of the above tho.just for space reasons.

Having 3 fish that all do the same thing can be boring but getting 3 fish that do different things like a bottom loach and afew mi/top water ones (the fancies) makes the tank more interesting without increasing stock.

please don't mention them. they can grow to 10" and need a 4ftx2ft at least.
but white cloud montain minnows would be ok.
