Where did you get him from was it a local shop you know and trust or was it a Wallmart type place??

I have black moors, they require alot of oxygen in the tank, and quite a bit of food. They also become dormant when stressed or when there is alot of mess in the water, so make sure your levels are normal and the filters working.

The black moors at my work are crazy sometimes they will lie on the bottom like a slob, and sometimes they are ridiculously active.

Well if hes new to the tank then yeah hell probably be like that for a little bit. If he isnt well goldfish can be odd sometimes.

i wudent worry give him a day or so to settle in to the tank an maby give him some food when i first got my black moor he was swimming round like a loon but in the night i noticed he was swimming on his side an strugling to swim i was really scared so i gave him his morning food went away for 5 mins came back an he had returnd to his normal loony self lol:)

Do you have a thermometer?, if so what's the temp. shold be from 68 to degrees. It might just be that its a new tank. What size is it, does it have any tankmates or a filter?

I hope the tank is both large and cycled. Fancy golds get pretty big ( about as big as a tennis ball in roundness, get one and imagine fins on it ) eat a lot and crap a lot.

If you've only just got him, he's probably just settling in and getting used to his surroundings. Have you tested the water to check Ammonia , Nitrites and Nitrates? You might want to do that just to check his water is ok and that it isn't a water quality problem making him lethargic.
