Moongleam is a "rescue". He was born with or developed shortly thereafter swimbladder problems. I didn't think he'd survive the trip to his new home with me, let alone the two weeks that I've had him, but he's still with me and even swimming around a bit more.

I have a story to share about Sunkist. Back in December/January timeframe, I found a betta breeder within an hours drive from me on Aquabid. He had a website and in the gallery portion he had a picture of an orange and black female. At the time, I was having loads of difficulties breeding and he and I would email back and forth trying to figure out what was going wrong. Anyway, one day I was looking through his gallery and I mentioned that a black and white marble is what I had wanted to achieve one day until I saw the picture of the orange and black female in his gallery and decided to change my goal to try to get a replica of her. Problem is, I cannot find pure orange females within a price range that I can afford nor can I find pure black males...even vice versa would be fine with me. So the day came last month when I decided to travel to his shop and pick out some bettas from his selections before he put them for sale on aquabid. I had my family visiting me at the time and took them along. My mom pointed out this beautiful orange and black female to me so I asked if she was the one from his gallery page and wouldn't you know she is. I decided not to ask if she was for sale since he had told me before that he wanted to breed her. All of sudden he offers to sell her to me for only $20. So Sunkist came home with me. I know I don't have to condition the bettas I get from him as much as the ones I buy from Petco, Wal-Mart or Petsmart, so I gave her some time to settle in and then began to prepare her for the big breeding day. I chose Gold Dust to partner with her. I was so excited when she began to show signs of wanting to spawn and even jumped out of the floating tank I had her in to join GD in the breeding tank. I cannot express my disappointment when she tore GD apart, whom later died from the injuries. Since I already had her conditioned, I decided to try my black DT plakat with her next. Again she jumped out of the floating tank on her own and within minutes, the two of them were liplocked. She's a huge bully. I still want to breed her, but not enough to lose my only plakat. I'm hoping I can find an orange male to breed with her in the near future, but if not, she's still a beauty and joy to admire.
