My little 6g has finally got its new occupants: Mohinder and Sylar. (The names, by the way, are not my fault; I did suggest Mohinder, but it was the rest of my flat who then insisted on the other being called Sylar.) Both of them seem to be getting on very well in their new homes - they ate straight away and Mohinder has already blown a bubble nest. He's also flaring at Sylar every chance he gets, but Sylar doesn't seem to notice he's there, despite the fact the divider is quite easy to see through.

This is the whole tank. The divider is made of half a food container with holes drilled in it, and the plastic bottle is to contain the flow from the HOB filter.

Here's Mohinder:

And here's the pair of them getting to know each other:

I'm pretty sure they're veiltails (I think it's quite difficult to get any other kind in NZ), but I'd love some confirmation.

Hi Elsa,

I am thinking of doing a divided tank myself but with non-see through material. I dont know if them seeing/flaring at each other is healthy for 'em. perhaps more plants grown near the divider would help?

Possibly, but I'm honestly not too worried about them seeing each other. They ignore each other for significant portions of the time anyway, and only come up to the divider and flare on occasion now they've had time to get used to their new quarters. Since I've read that it's good for male bettas to give them a mirror to flare at now and then, I figure this is basically the same thing.

That is a super set up. My boys tanks are next to each other and sometimes the card in between the tanks gets moved. I have noticed they flare at each other and then get fed up. Then later in the day will remember and start again. :hyper: :hyper: silly boys.
