I bought a new tank yesterday which is a long and thin tank that I am planning to divide into 4 partitions divided by clear acryling with drilled holes in for water movement.

If i divide it into 4 each compartment would be 15x19.5x20cm which is 5.85L or 1.287G.

Would this be enough swimming space for the Betta and more importantly would my Betta be happy? Should I go with only 3 compartments instead or can I stick with 4?

Ben

that would be kool!

personaly i would just go for 3 becuz it gives the siamese fighter more space.

I would like to go for 3, but If i go for 4 it means I dont have to re-locate the tank of one of the others.

I currently have 4 bettas, 2 in a divided 5 gallon, 1 in a 3 gallon on his own and 1 in a 9 gallon half hex tank with some neon tetra and some corys.

I would like to leave the one in the 9G where it is but have all the others in thhe tank with room for one more betta.

Ben

as long as the betta has a good amount of length to the tank to swim back and forth, it should be ok. if it is a reeeeeeally long tank, it should be ok but it sounds like a 5 gal. i havent ever seen a 5 gal that is long enough to divide into 4 spaces. do you have any pics?

I have a 20 Litre tank divided in half and my bettas are thriving. But to me, ur tank looks just over 20L i wouldnt do 4 compartments, maybe 3.

Well it is just under 24 litres so that would be nearly 6 litres per fish not including water displacement for gravel and filter.

Ben

well just because the amount of water is enough, doesnt mean there will be enough room.
just because thismight be one gallon doenst mean you can put a fish in it:

if most of your area is height (which i fear it may be), then it is no good.

for the record, thats no one gallon but just an example.

I am going to use the filter as it is very quiet and slow flowing. I am going to experiment with using the filter on its side to take up less room etc.

I have modified the filter so it has a piece of tubing on the outflow nozzle so that I can create a current by having the water sucked from one side of the tank to the other (Does that make sense?)

fair enough, that tank looks a lot longer than i expected. Nice tank. Im still noob, im just wondering, if u did divide that into 4 would it heat up alrite? how could u heat that?

I have a mini Heater that I can use which I wired up myself from a start kit I got.

I will probably light it by a clip on light that I am currently using.

yes that makes sense
do you mean you are going to give the filter its own section?

No...

I think I will split the tank into 3 after all As It will give them more space and It will make me happier seeing them happier.

Although I have recieved a lot of conflicting advice. People have told me they only need anything from half a gallon upwards which would mean I could happily house 4 bettas fine.

I just need more opinions on the matter.
