Are there gravel that contains nitrifying bacteria in it? I have gravel that came with the fish that claims to have the bacteria. but is it true?

Are betta fishes supposed to keep their mouths open the whole time?

And if my betta fish remains on the bottom of the tank, should I buy a prong to try to feed him with? instead of keeping the foods floating on top of the tank?????

if he's sitting on the bottom of the tank, there's something wrong!!

what kind of tank is he in?
what size is it?
how long have you had him?
does he have clamped fins?

i think he has swim bladder issues! i'm getting new fish supplies in a few minutes.

i got him in a 4inx4in tank, which the maker (aquatic gifts stores) claims that it's in a perfect environment with the cycling whatnot.. we've had him since nov of last year. he doesn't seem to have clamped fins.
right now, he's face down on the gravel and his tail end is over his head. he can't seem to get up... even if he tries to! i don't know what to do other than getting a new tank and some supplies.......

 What do you expect him to do in a 4" cube but lay on the bottom? Get a bigger (ie, several gallons) tank pronto, clean water, plant cover, in short, a proper tank...

agree with oohfeeshy here.

a 2.5"ish long fish in a 4" cube, is like you living in your bath.

She has another thread in which I told her what she needs. She's going out to get it. Her sister got the betta as a present, and the person who sold it to them said that container was perfect. She got it from her sister. Luckily, this poster is willing to learn and do what is best for this betta. :)

As for the gravel, as long as you make sure to keep up with the water changes (at least once a week) then you won't need any of that. Regular gravel will do just fine.
