I bought some betta pellets that have been packaged a lot like hikari but of another brand I am not familiar with. Anyway, I just want to ask if anyone here is more adept at reading fish food labels, I'd like to check if this brand can be used as a good substitute for Hikari (stock is not regular in my area).

Ingredients are: White fish meal, shrimp meal, soybean meal, wheat flour, rice bran, wheaet germ, yeast, vitamin A, B,C, E and other minerals.

Analysis:

Crude Protein 30%, Crude Fat 3%, Crude Fibre 2%, Moisture 10%

The protein sounds lower than usual fish food, but I don't really know anything about fish nutrition.

What do you all think?

I don't know a lot about fish nutrition (in food) either, but I just grabbed the pellets I feed my boys and here is the percentages from that jar:

crude protein: 45%
crude fat: 11%
crude fiber: 2%
moisture: 8%

The Hikari gold betta pellets are

Crude Protein 38%
Crude Fat 4%
Crude fiber 1% (max)
Moisture 10% max
Crude ash 12%max
Phosphorus min 0.9%

dunno much about whats good but thats what my betta eat and they seem happy

Kittycat, looks like you are talking about the Sanyu Betta Gold Pellets. I have search the entire City for Hikari Bio Gold Pellets and it looks like they are no longer being imported. So I guess we have little choice.

Yeah, ral, that's what I was referring to. BioR will probably import more Hikari in the future, it's just hard to tell when. They also ran out a while back of betta bio gold as well as algae wafers several months back, but came out with them again. Maybe they just wait until all or most Hikari stuff is out before ordering again. I recently opened my last card, so hopefully it will be soon. I use BettaMin sometimes from Tetra. I guess I'll just have to rotate more with other kinds of food as well to make up for whatever this one lacks.

Thanks, everybody!
