Ok someone help...Ive checked some site but i cant find and answer to my problem. I have a 5 gal hex tant for my betta. I had it running for about a week before i found the betta i wanted. I put some java moss in the tank along with 3 bamboo shoots. My betta is VERY agresive so he moved around alot the first few days. I feed him 2 times a day. He ate fine. I didnt over feed just feed him a pelt of betta bites in the after noon and one in the evening. The second day the bettas fins and tail started to close up. On the thrid day some white fluf was forming on the bamboo so i took it out. Over the next few days the bettas fins became more clamped and stiff almost rope like. Now he seems to spend most of his time on the bottom under java moss then comes out from time to time goes to the top and hides behind the filter intake. i did put aquarium salt in the tankand cycle and tap water conditioner but i dont know what the problem is. All i have in the tank is gravel and java moss. I did a Ammonia test but readings are at 0. I used Betta fix remedy 2 days in a row because when i bought him the tip of his tail was transparent so i thought this would help. I did do a water change yesterday. Whats wrong? :/

did you check the ph? it might had turn acidic after you put those bamboo plant? :p

Do 50% water changes for the next five days and make sure its the same temperature and dechlorinated, it is possible that the bamboo has added something that he didn't like, depend on the water quality he came from as to if its the ph, but a sudden change will cause him to clamp his fins, this happened to a super delta i had and the water changing every day helped it may not fully come back in the five days but it will come back with a lot of healthy water....... :p

Ok ill do that right now...it cant be anything like fin rot right? :-( He has long large fins...i would reallyhate to get that...

Unless his fins are blackening at the tips and/or turning clear and falling off in little thready bits, I don't think you have to worry too much about Fin Rot. ^^

:grr: damn! when i bought it it was black on the edges of the tail and transparent before that...pet store dude said his tail was growing.... well i have bad news....i woke up this morning at 4am he as fine then and then i woke up at 9 to find him dead :byebye: but his fins where covered with white fluf im guessing mold but nothing was there at 4am?

Oh no. Sad news. :(
I hope you feels ok. You did paying a lot of attention to him lately. :-( Next time, get healthy betta, ok?

Yes sad loss you did what you could it now sound like he was not well when you purchased him and just the stress of moving to a much better accommodation was just to much.......... :/

Thanks all...this betta was really agressive and it took me a month to find it....i wanted it to be completely red so it would stand out in my black trimed 5 gal with black gravel and green plants....it was nic while it lasted...oh wellz... maybe ill do a fishless cycle to be on the safe side...

awwww, I hate when that happens. Sorry for your loss. Just don't put the bamboo in next time.

O_O thats odd, because I have a red betta in a 5 gal hex tank with black gravel and green plants, and he had really awful fin rot when I got him (of course, I was aiming for one with fin rot).

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :-( We all make mistakes when getting new fish; you didn't know he was sick, and you did the best you could. I wouldn't give up on fishkeeping entirely, though I do suggest keeping Bamboo out next time. I've found that unless the plant is supposed to be aquatic, it dirties the water pretty fast.
