Several days ago, after I had won some new corys on AquaBid, I started browsing the site and found a wonderful yellow betta for sale. I've always wanted a yellow betta and any yellow betta would have made me happy. But this one was gorgeous!! I couldn't help myself and immediately bought him, even though he was still in Bangkok, Thailand.

So far, everything seems to be going fine. He is in this country now, with transhipper Linda Olson, and she told me that he would be jarred and fed while awaiting shipment to me. Today she will be sending him on his way to me via Express Mail. If all goes well, I expect him to arrive around noon tomorrow (Thursday).

Here's a link to the auction thread:

Since I have never bought a betta this way before, and don't know a great deal about what to expect, I would appreciate any advice you might have to help me get him happily settled in his new home.

I plan to gradually adjust his water temperature and pH, the same way I do with corys, but is there anything special I should do for this beautiful betta to make the transition easy for him? :dunno:

I don't know much about that. When I have gotten bettas through the mail, I just gradually adjusted them to light. Then I let them aclimatize for 30 min. Then I scooped a bit of the tank water into the bag and sit for 5 min and do it again 3-4 more times. Then I'd scoop him out and let him sit in his new tank and walk away so he can relax for an hour or so.

Can I just take a moment to drool over your new betta?
Thanks!!!

Thanks for the information. It sounds pretty much like what I do with corys. :D

BTW, SRC, that's a very interesting link. :thumbs:

beautiful betta! i'm just curious, how much did shipping cost in total? thai bettas are always so beautiful. i'd love to get one but it would be practical right now for me to spend a fortune on it.

Hi nino, :)

The shipping was more expensive than the betta. :X

This is how it worked out:

Sent to Duenbetta, in Thailand:

$ 27.00 for the fish
5.00 for air cargo costs

Sent to Linda Olson, the transhipper:

$ .60 for import fees
2.00 for handling
5.00 for box
26.00 for Express Mail

This makes a total of $65.60 for this lovely creature. :hyper:

Hi Inchworm,

So glad to see your moniker.

Where will the Pretty fellow sit to watch the world while you watch him?

He's a beauty, really lovely. Got a name?

We are looking forward to the pics, lots and lots of pics. Just snap away for a day. :nod:

Hi jollysue :)

I haven't thought of a name for him yet. Usually, I wait for them to settle in and then they tell me what it is. :D

Once my little black corys outgrow the 20 gallon long that they are in, I think I'll put the black corys and the C. arcuatus (skunk corys) back in it again. They were a striking combination and I think he would be a lovely contrast to them.

I was given some kind of floating plant that I have now in my panda tank and if I can identify and find some more of it, I think he will like it as much as my other betta does. It looks pretty too. :D

Well, we want piccies. Actually I am looking forward to seeing your tanks. I have some new accommodations to make myself and your ideas sound lovely.

Yes, black and gold :cool: I really would like to see His Goldness floating around in his Royalty.

My cories and my RoxyRoxana come tomorrow also if all goes well. I think I can move the gold fish (about 14+ inches of dirty boys and girls) to the 60 gal with a cycled bio wheel and substrate. Then put the 15 cories in the goldie tank with the old double filter and one established bio wheel. substrate, decor, and maybe some more decor from another tank. I also have some bio spira where/if needed. Does that sound like it will work for the cories?

We are so glad to have you. Wish we could offer a cup of tea or coffee. :D

Don't expect the bettas to soon. Duenbetta got in a car crash, and his uncle died in it.

The betta is already at Linda Olson's. Inchworm expects him from her tomorrow. Her timing was fortunate. :)

I just saw on that ling that they had this betta that cost $40 I mean thats rediculous for a betta thats only going to live for about 2 to 3 years. :S The most I would spend on a betta is $7

Personally...I would suggest buying 2 or 3 more bettas, having Linda hold that one a few more days, and have them all shipped from her at once..it works out to be alot more economical.
