Over the weekend I bought a fish on Aquabid and I paid for overnight delivery. (I can't wait to get her!)

I've never gotten a fish in the mail before, and I was wondering if there's anything special I should do for her when she arrives. I have a tank ready and everything, but I was wondering if I should add anything extra to the water (other than dechlorinator obviously) or anything to help her settle in??

Thanks!!

Bettamax! :D

It's good for acclimating newly arrived bettas, it's got vitamins and some anti fungal ingredients.

I'm assuming you know how to introduce your new baby to the tank(acclimating, etc), after that, you might want to just leave her alone and make sure there are no disturbances around her tank for a day or two, to let her settle down. Being shoved in a box and driven or flown around without having any clue in the blue hells what's happening to you can be very stressful :) Watch her closely for signs of extreme stress, and sickness. Congratulations! :)

giving fish, humans, or animals is not a good idea unless they are sick from something. Bad bacterias build up immunities to antibiotics over time the more they are introduced to it. Many Vets, phamacists and Doctors highly discourage the use of an antibiotic unless it is needed for an infection.

here is a FAQ privided by the centers for disease control.
http://www.cdc.gov/drugresistance/community/

Antibiotic resistance has been called one of the world's most pressing public health problems
Tackling Antibiotic Resistance:
Overuse of antibiotics is jeopardizing the usefulness of essential drugs. Decreasing inappropriate antibiotic use is the best way to control resistance. In 1995, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched a national campaign to reduce antimicrobial resistance through promotion of more appropriate antibiotic use.

It is from using it when it is not needed or not using as prescribed. Please only use medications as needed, not as a preventitive

A13 BETTAMAX
This was the first specifically designed medication for Bettas. Later, it was found to work equally well on guppies. This is a biotic blend of Nitrofurazone, Sulfamethazine, Sulfadiazine, Sulfathiazole, Methylene Blue, Polyvinilpyrrolidone (PVP) and Vitamin B12. It is effective against Split Fins, Holes in Fins, Body and Fin Fungus, and Collapsed Fins. Each capsule is designed to treat 5 gallons: cut in half if the betta is in a smaller container. Treat betta bowl once and leave for two days. Change water and repeat treatment if necessary. BETTAMAX will color the water blue. The PVP is added to condition tap water during medication. (Sold since 1979).

250 mg blended antibiotic capsules are available in 10, 100 and 1000 capsule containers. Also available in a 50gm bulk powder size.

maybe the methelene blue helps but I try to treat only when needed. A betta has an immune system, let them use it.

I would have to agree with rollntider.

Rather than adding medication, try using some stress coat or some salt and keeping the disturbance level low low.

Oh and CONGRATS on your new addition :)

Also when the box arrives, don't open it in a brightly lit room. They have been in complete darkness for some time and having strong lighting to suddenly can cause stress ;)
