IS your tank supposed to be cycled before you add plants or not? Because i was originally told your supposed to but my LFS dosn't have a good track record of giving out the correct information to it's customers. So if you are supposed have it cycled before in which way would be the better way fishless cycling or cycling with fish such as gold fish or some sorts ?

In a high-growth planted tank i.e. lots of light, CO2, dense planting with fast growing weeds - then you can add a few fish and the plant growth will deal with NH3/4, NO2. So traditionally cycling is not necessary.

In a "regular" tank i.e. supplied lighting, no CO2 etc. then adding fish is not recommended as you will be exposing them to toxins. In this case perform a standard fishless cycle with ammonia etc. You can add plants from the start if you wish.
