Hello I have a 30 gallon aquarium and I want to keep cichlids in it. I am a beginner in keeping cichlid tank. Does anybody have any recommendation of any species of cichlids for a beginner?

I've heard Firemouths are a great beginner cichlid, as they have a wide tolerance for tank conditions than other cichlid species. They are fine to live in any source of tap/mains water.

I'm not a cihlid expert but I think firemouths need a bigger tank than 30 gals.
I also know you can have an african cichlid tank or new world cichlids... there's a section for both in the forum, so you might want to ask there.

depends on if you want american or african cichlids...

I'd personally go with a pair of female convicts and maybee a couple dithers. Convicts are incredibly tough fish. Just make sure you don't get a male and female or you will have a mini convict factory.

Thanks for the recommendations. I would like to keep African cichlid, a community of them. Is there any small cichlid to live together
as a community?

30 gal isn probably a bit on the small side for any mbuna or haps etc so would stay clear of them but you could go for a pair of shell dwellers from tanganika say neolamprologus signatus or similar at one end of the tank and a rock pile with a pair of julidochromis at the other.
