Hi all.

recently purchased a Fluval Duo 600 84l aquarium.

im just about to start fishless cycling, but am confused about which filter media i need to use.

The filter is a Fluval 2+, and so far its been running the 2 standard foam filter media, which cleared the crap from the water nicely.

The filter also came with 1 finer, white media pad, and also a carbon pad. Which of these should i be using for fishless cycling?

Also there doesnt seem to be a space in the filter to put these extra pads, do i have to remove the 2 standard media first, or do the extra pads fit in there somehow?

Any help would be appreciated :)

hi,
i also run the fluval 2+ in one of my tanks,
the carbon is for taking out any med you may have used, so leave that to one side, the fine media pad is for taking fine particles out the water, at the moment you dont need any of these while you cycle, i just used the foam pads that came with it, you can only fit either the fine pad or the carbon in the space between the foam pads, you do not need to change the foam pads unless they are falling to bits, its fine to run it just with the foam pads, you may wish to put in the fine pad when the fish are in, all the best with the cycle, donna :good:

many thanks, great help! :)

so the other filter pads arent actually attached to the filter then, they are just sandwiched into the cage between the foam ones? seems a bit silly... Heh.

yes the fine pads just sit inbetween, then after 2 weeks your supposed to change them. :)
