New...and Questions

I am new to this...and wanted to know if you can use distilled water instead of tap??
 
Also can I use an undergravel filter?  Or is it better to use sponge covered filters?

Welcome aboard Jennifer,
I am also new too. I am having a hard time figuring this out. lol
I have well water. I don't see why you can't use distilled water as its much safer. 
I never use undergravel filter. I used sponge only if the fish is sick and can't use carbon filter as it takes medicine out. This way, it is filtering out the waste etc.

You can use distilled water but you have to put a lot of the minerals you're taking out back into the water, it gets costly.
 
Undergravel filters can work but I prefer sponge filters as I find they're safer and easier to use.
