I bought myself another bristlenose at the weekend - labelled up as an L181, Temminicki (i think). he/she's only just over an inch at the moment, but much less shy than my commom BN and white seams. Hopefully it'll do a good job on the massive algae growth thats going on in my dwarf and red-eye puffer tank. Been trying to find out some further info about it today but havent managed to find anything as of yet - does anyone know anything of these? Cheers!!

Hi Chris,

Think my remaining BN is a Temminicki ;)

Will post a pic when I get home from work tonight.

Where did you get her from btw ?!? I'm after a replacement or two for mt female who died last week, and the 3 White Seams that I took to Russ's on Friday !!! ;)

Are they really spotty, the ones that you have remaining? these ones have quite large distinct white spots all over, and a white edging to the caudal fin.
do you know kaleidoscope aquatics, formerly kaleidoscope koi in Paignton? if not, head from paignton town centre towards torquay, and its just past the Jet garage on the right hand side. they had plenty left, all babbies tho and no signs of bristles yet so dont know if theres any other way of sexing them? Fairly cheap too at £4 ea

Yeah, my male that I've got left, has got large defined spots all over. Not sure on the white edging to the fin though, will have a closer look tonight ;)

He's about 3-4" now, and ideal for breeding !! Just gutted that the female died !! Think it was down to her holding on to the eggs, due to the White Seams being put into the tank at the wrong time.

sounds very much like the same patterns then. i have been trying to get a digi camera to get some pics but no luck so far, if i can get hold of one though i will try and get some pics up on here

have a look at tank 2 on my site - they are Temminicki I think.

Unfortunalty its really hard to pin them down precicely as the name has been used to label most bristlenoses at some time or another.

But as you say they are a lot spottier than commons - and our femals dont have bristles - not even a hint :)

ok I got smart...

much bigger than mine but yep looks very much like the ones. Theyre labelled up as L181's in the shop anyhow; they had plenty there anyway, i picked the biggest one in there, the rest of them probably max 1". They had some larger plain BN's in there too for about double the price.

Andyj's pic is SPOT  on.

Don't think it is smithrc's, that's like mine and I would like a positive ID on that if possible.

According to Datz the L181 will grow to 20-25cm and is the same as L71 and L249.

Hope this helps and hope he's not too big for your tank, it's quite large for a BN.

Have also just noticed that the bristles on my Mr B are in a different pattern to yours Russ.....

Mine are like this (looking from above his nose)...... (excuse the poor attempt at a diagram to follow ;) )
Code:
    \    /
\   \ /    /
  \   I   /
    ------
They're in also a double 'v' layout, with one 'v' along his top lip, and the other slightly higher up his head.

and Russ's are like this.....

Code:
      I
\    I     /
  \   I   /
    ------
with a 'v' along his top lip, and then 1 row going straight up his nose.

cheers for the extra info - that is big for a bristlenose! hes in a 20g, but i do have room to move him if he/she does turn into a monster!!

Difficult at this stage to say which of the two pics it most resembles; however it does have a definite white fringe to the top and bottom edges of the caudal fin :/
