OK....I have a new 75 gallon tank....which will be ready for fish in about 2 weeks.....trouble is...I dunno what fish to put in there.....

I was thinking....initially I wanted African cichlids.....then I decided against that (too many rocks etc.)....then I thought New World Cichlids (angels and the like)....then I decided against that too.....then I thought perhaps a nice peaceful community tank....but I am really not sure.....????

I like fish with interesting colours....I allready have my 30gal tank full with platies and tetras etc....hence I want something different to that....I haven't totally ruled cichlids out but the cichlids would need to be able to exist happily without a great deal of rockwork.....oh....and I would like some angels in there perhaps (note the perhaps....hence I am still undecided).

If anybody has any suggestions for my tank then it would be greatly appreciated....all ideas etc. will be considered!!!

Thanks in Advance

Angela

choose what u think is cool, and are compatible
LOL!! Thats great help there! Dude, go for the dwarf cichlids like the flags and butterfly, rams, kribs, cuckoo, just to name a few. Gouramis are also a great choice...but you have to be sure to get more than just one, somewhere around 3 or so to disappate their 'aggression'. Serpae tetras, scissortail rasboras, congo tetras, try some types of loaches! Experiment and research! Live and learn!! Enjoy! Have fun deciding!

I'd definitely go for the blue rams...I had 6 to stop the fighting and they settled in to my community tank with no problems apart from the occassional chase when other fish came near where they had laid their eggs. I made sure I had 4 females and 2 males as the guys are for more bossy.

no realy it is.....chooklet, its realy up to u... why dont u take a look around... theres no point in havin a tank an lettin everyone else choose for u, probably half that are mentioned here u might not be able to get, and if u could u might not like them.. so whats the point in it?

my advise is to go to about 3-4 diff lfs's or do a search for a fish index... then look up the names see if theres any pics so that u can take a look... get info ect..

if i had a tank that size no way would i let anyone choose what fish are gonna go in it...

iv already got my list for my 40gal shame i dont have any money left tho lol :sly:

Nightlife...i'm curious now, what fish are u gonna stock in the 40 gal? And true true, you should only use peoples advice to help you in your decisions for picking the fish you want. But in the end YOU should pick the fish for the tank because you are the one who is gonna have to live with it, not them. So choose fish you are happy with and like. But get otos...lol.

Someone gave me a good piece of advice recently.

Pick the "superstar" of your tank. The one species you really really want to have. Then design the rest of the inhabitants based on the parameters set by your "star".

The star of my 29g tank is going to be the Pearl Gourami. Based on leeri's preferred water parameters, general disposition, size, and color, I was able to select tankmates that I liked and that made sense.

So pick your star and you're halfway there...

Good luck!

mostly cories (already have six in me old tank ready to go in) prolly get another one of each to go with. then more loaches (love these buggers plus transportin soome from old tank depending if they are black or normal) my crab +1 and diff kinds of catfish... this one aint havin a plec of any sort...

thats most if not all of the room taken up.... then i shall browse for more if its possible....

was lookin at some sunset g's the other day mmmmm :D

Cichlids all the way!!! I had the same problem too and I decided to go for Africans. They have amaaaazing colors, awesome personalities, and they're just beautiful!!! You will need rockwork and places to hide but I think that you will find it a plus to have those. You'll have fun watching the cichlids swim in and around the different rocks and such in your tank! A type of rock i reccomend with cichlids is lace rock. it has very interesting formations, it's not very expensive, and it provides the fish with an awesome playground!

AFRICAN CICHLIDS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!

i think you should just go with what you like and not what other people like so if you like colours and or if you like just cool fish that eat things ? it is up to you but ya look for a bit on different websits and find what you like the most. :D :flex:

I like difference a lot, so I always say that if I'm going to have two tanks, then they are definitely not going to be the same. But you gotta do what you gotta do :p

Some helpful questions to ask yourself:

A few bigguns, or a lot of little guys?
Aggressive, semi-aggressive, or community?
Themed (S. American, Asian, etc.) or species or whatever you want?
Do you want something to suit a pH or kH level of your tapwater?
What tops your fish want-list?
How much effort to you want to put into fish maintenence?

HTH

btw, I like blue botias and barbs B)

Check out the link on my sig. Rainbow / cichlid tanks rock.

Though I would stay away from the dwarf species.

GL on your choices.
