Can anyone suggest different fish types and number of, for my new aquarium? I have never kept fish before and like everyone else I have inclination towards bettas and guppies and the like. Are these fish compatible with one another and what other community fish would you recommend?

I have had the tank for 2 weeks. At the start of each week I added the specified quantity of tapsafe bacteria and each day I have been adding a source of ammonia (fish food) as instructed by the seller of the tank. I intend to test the water for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate pH etc in another week or so to ensure the tank has cycled before adding fish. I just wanted to get an idea of what fish people would recommend?

I live in Northern Ireland. I'm sure I probably could get hold of some ammonia. The local supermarket probably has some products which are principally ammonia.

Just remember to do the shake test!

Whenfind ammonia, shake your bottle if it foams up, it is no good. Pure ammonia does not bubble out.

Ammonia will help your cycle! :D

Once your tank has cycled. You can house 1 male betta with guppies, platies, mollies, and such in a 40 gallon tank. You would want to understock your tank, as with livebearers you need to leave room for plenty of fry.

If you don't want a betta, then another type of guorami woudl suit you as well.

My advice to you and get a list together of fish that you would like and the quanitity that you would like and then we can give you advice on that list.
