for xmas as many of u may be aware i got a fluval vicenza 260 second hand from my grandparents.
I am using an old 60L tropical tank for a sump.
And the beast  fluval fx5 the tank came with :look: which will double up as my return pump.

Also i have a Redsea prizm pro skimmer. Although im not sure if this baby will have the power to pull the skin of a rice pudding  so may have two skimmers, one from my other tank the tunze nano DOC 9002. Which is just brill

Im using one 300w heater, but may use my 300w smartheater as well for more umpth and assurance.

And that brings me to today.

I went the to the glass shop and they are currently cutting me baffles for sump out of 4.5mm laminate glass.
I have ordered arcadia pod light for refugium.
I have ordered black backing.
I have ordered a pvc stand pipe to extend pipe to water level.

I am needing still:

Ro unit =£60 ebay
UV steriliser will this one do http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/800L-H-INTERNAL-9W-UV-STERILIZER-AQUARIUM-FILTER-NEW_W0QQitemZ310134362051QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item483572cfc3
I may run a v2 in line after sump and before fx5.
piping for fx5, and new plug
Piping to make a Durso

Then I can start to fill! Hoping to be filling within the next two weeks :shout:

Im so exited

Pics will follow depending on how many replies i get now. :good:

UVs usually require slow flow, reckon your external (which dont make great return pumps btw) will push too much flow through the UV lowering the contact time meaning that water bound parasites wont die.

Nice taank btw, always liked them

yer ok ill get a small unit and put it in my sump, coz i want a few tangs and i know what they are like with ich

I was thinking of going with black sand this time what are your thoughts?

OMG today i saw the most elegant lionfish and that made me really want one! Why is everything in a marine tank such a compromise!

lionfish would be awsome, just dont get shrimps etc

Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Black sand - oh no!

UV - you shouldn't really run a uv all the time, it is very debatable if they are of long tern use at all

okay seffie i think my family prefer normal sand too.

Went through sump design a bit more tonight and have to ring glass shop in the morning so they can perforate two baffles to allow an even distribution of flow throughout refugium so there are no dead spots in there.

The thing is with lions that they are messy eaters ths hard to keep sps etc.

That brings me on to my next problem
My dad wants this tank to look very astetically pleasing, he likes the top of the tank as it is but i have told him i need to change those lights to something with more umpth  I personally would like a halide pendant maybe a 3ft one with 2 150w 14000k bulbs, but i was thinking along the lines of keeping the roof on and the tank enclosed. id need more t5's and i think i can attach 2 more t5's with the room i have got which will give i think 4x 54W of light, plus i have seen leds at my lfs which i may purchase in future. What do you think i should do, t5's will cost alot and i dont think i can get the same power i could get with a pendant, also money is an issue with current climate.

Intending to keep sps lps softies anemones clams

im in a tricky spot! I dont think 4 t5s would be enough and it will be expensive as i will need a double starter unit = £90 and 4 new bulbs as current ones must be 18months old = 4x £30 = £120!

90+120= £210!

So are there any neat halide units on the market used or new preferably good brand?

Also in the middle of the tank there is a support brace, it makes no shadows with the t5s would it with halides?

Okay so today i ordered durso pieces from critters coventry and should expect several deliverys any day now,

I have added a pick of tank so you can see my dialema, its situated under the stairs, and those pictures of me and my brother (left) are there, of course they can be taken down do you think i could put pendant hooks through the under neath stair part?
It is wooden

I think it is a perfect size tank for the location :good:

the big white chief says and i quote "no chemistry set" so by that he means the hood stays and im stuck with t'5s

Would 4 54W t5s be suffiecient? at least i wont have to worry about evap or heat problems :D

So yer the new plan is to buy new tubes for existing two and a new starter unit (best i have seen is the arcadia double unit for £65 so not that bad tbh.

then another 2 tubes!

I was thinking 50/50 with the actinics and whites but i want really vibrantt colours should this be ok?

of course i will try and control 1 or 2 actinics to come on first to simulate night.

If theres still not enough light i will opt for 2 pc lights on top of the rest, and to finance it all start my own tanning salon

good to keep most softies, some hard corals like euphyllia and when mature a bubble tip nem

yep, I might be tempted to go with three whites though

Seffie x

ps you know that tank isn't big enough for all but the dwarf lions don't you?

yer seffie i know  so this is going to be a mixed community reef current stocking orders are

1 regal tang
2 clownfish percula
1 coral beauty
1 royal gramma

those are what i already have in 128L I am intending to get

2-3 yellow tangs
a wrasse maybe pyjama
copperband (lfs says they will hold one for me that i think looks good and healthy they say is eating well on frozen)
a pair of bangai cardinals
a pair of mandarins (hopefully)

I currenty have an acropora coral will this be okay under 2 39W and 2 54w t5's? i am definatly wanting montiporas like confusa, digita and plating so will this be okay or shall i bid on a DOUBLE pc starter unit at 55W each? to boost lighting? :fun:

No go on 2-3 yellow tangs im afraid. Tanks border line too small for one tang. Rest of the list looks ok ish...so long as you know that the regal will need a bigger tank one day and the copper band is a BIG risk.

If you want montiporas then you will need more lighting imo. Acropora more again.

great looking tank, will look the dogs danglies set up as reef.

yer it should if i ever get it running! thing is is that i have acropora already so would like to transfer that to new tank, what if i bought two double vho 54W t5 starter units that would give me a total of 6 bulbs and hopefully 294W thats if i can fit them all in! thats just over 4W a gallon

the watt per gallon thing is a load of crap tbh...

but with 6 T5s i would say yeas you should be ok with acros right up at the top. Montiporas for the top 2/3rd of the tank. Softies and Lps lower.

sounds good to me ben although can clams be perched coz i will really want one in future
