Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I am getting a 29 gallon tank soon and was wondering what I could put in it. So far, I'm going to put some minnows, some ottos, a pleco, and some corycats. I wanted some type of larger, colorful fish and was considering gouramis. Does anyone know much about gouramis? What kind of water they like, if they like alot of plants in their tank? I know that I don't want to do live plants, I"d rather do silk plants, and the bottom of the tank is going to be sand. So, basically, I'm just asking for any helpful information anyone can give me on gouramis! I'd appreciate the help.

What I suggest you do is to go to your LPS/LFS (local pet/fish store) and make a list of the fish that catch YOUR eye. Afterwards, go home and look up the fish and research, research, research. Remember, this is YOUR tank, so get fish that you really like, not what someone else likes.

As fare as gouramis go, try looking into Dawrf Gouramis, possibly pearl gouramis (they get up to 5"), and Honey Gouramis. Hope that helped.

Gouramis are really nice fish, and as far as i know, peaceful with other community fishies.
They do like to hide, as I've found with my dwarf, but when they get used to you, they're beautiful faces come out more often, and I think a few would be great in there, with what you've listed. Although you know Plecs get reallly big right? I'm not sure the different types, but most "common" plecs get very very big, and they may look small at the lfs, they actually need a 75gal tank at full size in some peoples opinions. They also create a lot of waste.
The otos sound good, I'd like some myself lol.
Most of the fish you listed, are more bottom swimmers, i think.
Do you like livebearers? They're pretty easy, and you've got a good tank size.
I'd say, going to the fish store and looking around, seeing what you really like, theres really no way to list what you may like, everyone is different. Hope you do okay, good luck
