Hello All

I have just bought a 20L tank, it has natural gravel with 3 x anubias plants and 2 x small java ferns and some christmas moss. Obviously I am going to run it for a week or so before I add any fish into it. But I need suggestions of what fish to put in it :) Whatever fish goes in needs to be okay with apple snails as the tank will house my baby apple snails.

The tank is running with a filter and 26 degrees c and all suggestions are welcome.

Read about cycling before adding fish. Or you can do what is called the 'fish-in cycle...'

Good starter fish-
Platys
Mollies
Guppies

With about 5G you can only settle for small fish so mollies/platties/swords would be out of the question. Unless that was a type and you meant 20G :look:

I want to stay away from live bearers if possible and have always had problems with male guppies. I was think siamese fighter maybe?

And no it is a 20l/5g tank, think 2 shoe boxes stacked on top of each other :)

Yeah you can keep a betta in there but I'm not so sure whether it'll bother your snails.

I have a 5G too :D

Yey :) 5G friend :) I have a 60L tank too with my big apple snails and tetras who all seemed okay when the babies were in there. What have you got in your tank?

I'm starting to find apple snails quite cool but I hardly see them around over here. Wow I have a 60L tank too :hyper:

I have 3 tiger barbs, 4 black neons, 5 neons, 3 swords and 1 pleco in my 60L. I know I'm overstocked but the tank and the fish were a gift from my dad. For my 5G I have cherry barbs.

Yeah! Not a lot of people have 5G tanks. Wow I have a 60L tank too :hyper:

I HAVE BLACK NEONS & NEONS TOO!!! I have 3 B.Neons, 4 regular neon and 5 cardinals. I have 3 columbian tetras but they're only tiny at the moment and 3 big apple snails with babies and eggs. I'm a lttle overstocked too but water tests always come up A okay and Its heavily planted :D

Hi guys,

Hope you are all well. what about some endlers? they are suitable for your tank size and would not bother your snails.

clarousel...you are overstocked I am afraid. Your Pleco will get WAY too big for a 60l tank and tiger barbs should be kept in groups of at least 6 to stop them becoming aggressive to other fish. Also all types of tetra should be kept in shoals of 6+.

Hope that helps!! happy fishkeeping!

This is so cool! We have so much in common! Okay maybe just the tank size and the neons haha. I see you have lots of tiny fish! I really like corys but I have no space for them :(

I guess your plants are helping you out! My 60L tank is a bit chaotic at the moment but I think it's getting better! I really admire the members on this forum with large tanks but I believe I can't handle one... \

So you're settled on the betta for your 5G?

@Laura120381 I know about the pleco and he may move to the pond soon and meet the other plecos :) For the shoaling fish I didn't want to get more because I'm already overstocked :X. So far my tiger barbs are not nippy at all but I was told they may get more nippy when they're older. Bummer at being overstocked but I really can't do much about it :/

Endlers are guppies right? Hve you got them? what are they like- shoal/temperament etc? My neons/cardinals are all shoaling together :) but when my columbians get bigger they will all be moved to a larger tank (with more columbians too).

Endlers are guppies right?

No they are a seperate species but most Endlers these days are cross-breeds with guppies. There are a few pure breeds out there though, I am looking at some black-bar endlers for my RIO 400 when its cycled.

hi again,

no endlers are not guppies but they are livebearers. they used to be called endlers guppies but were later classified as a breed in their own right. they are relatively hardy and shoal together nicely. they are reasonably peaceful fish but active enough to be interesting. I don't have them now...I had them in my first ever tank 8 years ago and they were great. google endlers and click on images. if you have any more ideas, just post them on here and we will hopefully be able to advise you on what is suitable...

Tempted by endlers too, but I know more about bettas so I think it would be better to go for them. I have 2 corys in mine- maybe once you move the plec you could get them? My tank was a bit caotic but once i'd decided what I wanted I rehomed the mollies I had and did an 80% water change and bought a mix of bogwood and live plants then left buying any more fish for about 2months- then I bought my cardinals, then my columbians and corys. java fern and vallis are brilliant plants to put in :)
