Hello everyone,

I have 18x12x12 (Almost 11 gallon, 42Ltrs) aquarium with Under gravel filter and gravel.

Kindly suggest me if i can keep guppy fish school and one betta (fighter) fish together and will 11Gallon be enough for this setup ?

I am planning to have an aquatic plant (for guppies)

Also please tell me if i can replace the Under gravel filter and gravel with Sponge filter ?

Thanks

No, it's not recommended to keep guppies with bettas; the long tails on the guppies confuse the betta into thinking they're other bettas and he'll attack them.

A small shoal of one of the smaller rasboras or tetras (but research the tetras before you get them, some can be nippy towards fish with long fins) would be your best bet.

You could replace the UG with a sponge filter, but you'll have to run both together for about six weeks, until the sponge filter has grown a colony of bacteria on it.
