Neverending Fungus

Hey all! Long time no message, school has kept me busy.

I have a problem. Ningyo, my black moor, has a fungus. Its a common saprolignia and I have treated it with some Malachite anti-fungus medicine. This has worked for him and my other fish in the past and now he has contracted it again (he is in his own tank and the other fish are fine).

Does anyone out there have any sugesstions? I have tried to treat him again, doingit for the reccomended 48 hours, but it has not helped too much. I need some help to get him better again.

If your 100% sure its a fluffy fungus then is it on a wound or on a fin?

Do more water changes to keep his water really clean and add aquarium salt. Add 1 level teaspoon per gallon or 1 level tablespoon per 5 gallons U.S and then again 12 hours later to give you a .2% solution. Keep it like that for a week to see if it helps and if the fungus is still there then add the same again to .3%.

When doing water changes remember what you take out as you will need to re add the salt back again, but dont add salt if its due to evaporation.

How many gallons is the tank, plus how many fish and which type, what are your test results in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph, where is the fungus and if it fluffy looking in appearance.

Its a black moor in a 5 gal tank (I know that is small for that kind, I've adressed that in other posts). I have done a water change today and added in some more medicine at the 10 drops per gallon ratio like it requires. I have to pick up another test kit when I go and buy some more pH solutions and filters.

The fungus had started as a little white cotton like spot on his side. I treated him then and there for that and it went away, but it took off the black color and left his dark gold coloring under it exposed. Now the fungus, despite more treatments, has spread over both of his sides and part of his tail. The dark color on his body is slowly being replaced by the cotton fungus and the the appearance of dark golden scales.

He is active, eats normally, his bowel movements are fine. I am just keeping my eyes on that fungus and hoping it goes down.

Sounds like columnaris and you are going to need an antibiotic but it will wipe the bacteria colony out, tetacycline an antibiotic.

I am unable to get a picture of the fish, but I did the next best thing... sort of.

I found a picture of a black moor online and have used my paint program to illustrate what he looks like. He moved around as fish tend to do, so I don't have a complete photo-realistic match to the patterning on him, but this is what he has.

The white is the cotton-like fungus and the brown and gold is where the black coloring has been eaten/worn away and left the dark gold scales under it visable.

I did a water change last night and added some pH solution to get it back up to normal (I got a test kit last night and it was way too low). I plan on doing a through clean in a few moments since I have 3 hours until class.

Your'e in the uk so you will need anti internal bacteria med by interpet, plus anti fungus and finrot med by interpet, good luck.

Shes in america. Start feeding medigold and see if you can find something strong for a med.

I assume that different types of Columnaris and that not all the medciations for one will work for another. I do have some medicine here that treats the mouth variety. My question is, if I add that to the water will it help or harm the fish? I know it will not cure it (at least that is what I am not expecting to happen with this medicaiton), but since I cannot get to the pet store soon (midterms and all) to get the right kind. I will get it asap, but right now I can't.
