Alright...My male refuses to build under the cup, his bubbles pop as soon as they hit the surface, and there is no filter to cause that, Im guessing he is not using his saliva as well..? I got various leaves and lettuce, I try a new one every 2 days. He makes a very very small nest under the leaves so that they are not hitting the surface, he usually makes them overnight, but by the time I get home form school at about 2:00 its already ruined. he is not making them properly. I dont know why. Theres all these pictures of nests at the surface, but his bubbles pop quickly. I have 3 girls in a tank aside him, they have thier bars! And they are ready, I dont know if I will breed them, I mean..thats not my point here, I just want to know why my male is not doing it correctly.

hrm. I wouldn't really care, if you don't plan on spawning him now. The temp could be too low for his liking... try bumping it up to 78*-80*. Make sure the water is super clean, add a bit of Blackwater or IAL extract, or an IAL leaf. My boy built a HUGE nest under a large piece of IAL! Make sure the top of the tank is 90% sealed with seran wrap or a secure cover, because humidity will help the bubbles stick together. Is the tank big? If it's too small, he might not be interested in building a large nest.

Also if you've got a fan on or something, I've found they pop bubbles. My boy had a huge bubblenest, I turned on the fan and they all started to pop. So yeah.

If none of the solutions suggested work, it may just be that he's not a very good nest builder... we all have our weak points :p

I was having a hard time with my male building a nest too. Same problems as you were. But one night I turned the light off early and left him go (male in tank, female in breeder container in tank) and in the morning, he had a huge one. I thought it may have been the light but my husband said it shouldn't cause it's a flourescent and wouldn't give off that much heat so the heat wouldn't have popped em. But it took him about a week or so until he was successful so maybe yours just needs some time. Btw...my breeder tank is a 10g with a sponge filter and i turned it down so there was hardly any current.

Hopefully yours just needs some time too. Happy spawning!
