Hi! I bought a nerite snail (on the advice of some nice people on this forum) for keeping my brackish tank clean. I have had him for 3 days, and he still has not come out of his shell. I am afraid he will starve to death before he becomes acclimatized and makes an appearance to eat :( My local marine fish guy I got him from kept him in full saltwater. How long can they go without eating and when will he come out!?!?!

Thanks :)

What kind of nerite snail? Not all are brackish...
I have heard that sometimes when changing salinity they can kind of hibernate for a week while they become used to new salinity...espicially when it is a large difference

I didn't realize there were different types of nerite snails. He has a pointy shaped shell with little spikes on the shell, if that helps identify.

Still waiting for him to come out...

Are you sure there is still a snail in the shell? Give it a smell to check. ;)

Yep, he's in there. I have him at the front of the tank with his open end facing out so I can check on him, and he is sloooowly starting to make his way out. But he's not coming out and eating yet :(

Have you identified him yet?

No, I haven't. He is in a pointed shell, and the shell has points all over it too.

I guess no matter now, he died  He is still in his shell, but he is stinky.

Anyone got some nerites that are used to brackish they wanna send me??? I will pay for postage :D
