where are neons from?( other the the pet shop )

and do you get any different colours all mine seem to have the greeny/bluey stripe???

I think it's the far east, you can only get them in that colour, the cardinal tetra is a better fish as it's hardier, and not prone to NTD if it isn't kept with neon tetras.

are cardinal tetra just neons with a red under belly, i had a look on google for pics and it brought up a load of neon look alikes

Yes cardinals are just like neons but with more red.

Neons have red on half of there body, Cardinals have red on the full legth of their body.

Cardinals and neons are from South America, Amazon basin but perhaps elsewhere too. NTD is called that because it was first identified in neons, other fish get it too. They do not come in other colours. Neons get 1 1/2" and Cardinals get slightly bigger, 2".

and golly the NTD sound awful need to watch for that but all fish in tank at present are healthy and good, although saying that since I changed the filter they have become more active!!

would this be normal???
