ive decided to change a tank to a neon tank with golden algae eaters in. the question is, how many neon tetras and maybe harliquins can i fit in? the tank is 33g, or 125L and obivously there a small fish so im guessing quite a few, but i dont want to overdo it.
cheers
george

You could put 30-40 neons in there as long as the filter is fine and established. But I wouldn’t add Chinese algae eaters, either common or golden. If you want an algae eater for that tank get whiptail, twig or small suckermouth catfish like brinstlenose or peckoltias.

ok thankyou, why not algae eaters? i do have a female bristlenose which im putting in there.

Chinese algae eaters grow too big and cause problems when they mature. Big ones will eat neons.

ok cheers, ill keep to me trusty bristlenose then. what about khuli loaches? i had one but never saw it sowould a group help them venture out more

definatley do not get algae eaters - i had a golden one (kids called her hilda) that decided to give my gold fish love sucks and killed several wcminnows one evening out of the blue after a couple of years in the tank with no problems

khuli loaches are fine and will get along great with neons or harlequins :)

yes i agree khulis are a lovely addition to a tank and if you can get them around to daily feeding you will see them more - i see mine all day now took a about 6 weeks and an increase in numbers (now up to 8) but now they are there all the time
