i have 20 gal im gunna plan t theni want a tetra tank what is the max # of neon tetras i can have in a 20 planted with room for 4 -5 other fish

Well, that would depend partly on the size of the 4-5 other fish.... Other than that, just want to point out that neons are quite sensitive and need a mature tank.

No i wouldn't keep tigers with neons, tiger barbs are very nippy fish and may stress the neons out too much.

darn any idea on god fish to keep with neons could i have some fancy guppies or maybe cories

ps if this dosent work tell me i wont feel bad i want to know so i dont mess this up

i want alot of small fish not a few big one and i want them to swim i shoals i want at least 7 of each kind can some one give me an idea

Either do a fishless cycle or cycle the tank just with the guppys to start with(theres more on cycling tanks in the stickys at the top of the beginner section) at most, then gradually build up the stock with the corys once its finished and eventually the neons 3months after its been established- or basically once the water stats are stable and constant  .

The fish wont shoal too much in a tank that small. I have 5 neon tetra in my 20 gallon and although they group together on occasion, such as when my hand is in the tank, they don't stay in a tight group the rest of the time.

oh, and bettaboi, you should aim to have the total length of the fish in your tank no more than 20 inches.

Either that or get some gravel or filter media from an established tank (ask your lfs) or get some BioSpira.

Corys and Neons are great little community fish. I have one Guppy and she's a nice little fish. Rather boringly colored though :p She schools with the Neons sometimes  Silly girl!

A couple stocking ideas:
10 Neon Tetras
3 Guppies (1 male, two females, or three females)
4-5 Corys

5 Neon Tetras
6-8 Guppies (more females than males)
4-5 Corys

Twenty inches of fish (not including tails) is a good general guideline, but isn't a hard and fast rule. Tetras and Corys don't produce much waste in relation to their size, so you can get away with adding more of them than what the inch-per-gallon rule suggests.

Neons and Corys both like to be in groups. I'd suggest at least five for Neons and at least three, preferably four or five, for Corys.

Have fun!

The more you have, the more they will shoal. There is nothing wrong with 5 but you won't see much schooling.
