Well, we recently discovered a baby fish in our tank  it has to be a balloon molly, since nothing else in our tank would have made babies at the time, but now, our Neon tetras are mating!

I have 5, and I noticed this morning they were acting kinda aggressive, well chasing each other. I wasn't sure but suspected they were trying to mate, so I watched for a little while, noticed them chasing into the plants and then swimming right up close, side by side and kinda flashing their bellys. Pretty sure they were mating I looked it up online, and yup, I'm positive they are. Pretty awesome.

I don't have anywhere else to put the breeders or house the eggs :(

Keep an eye on this thread, I just got some great video footage of a pair doing some mating dance.

Ok, I got the video onto my computer, hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did.

Please right click and select 'save target as' if you know you're going to watch it more than once, and then watch from your computer to save my bandwidth. Thanks, appreciated.

Last night when I came home from work they weren't as active as they were, still chasing a little bit, but nothing exciting. One or two of the neons were loitering amongst the plants. Tang, my Dwarf Gourami, was kinda hovering around, pointing downard, I swear he was looking for something. Maybe looking for more eggs to eat?

Anyway, can't see any eggs in there, not that they'd hatch anyway, but still.

That's a great video! Thanks for sharing it. I've seen that sort of behaviour with my neons and figured it was mating behaviour. Doesn't usually last as long as your though. (whatever that means  )

(hehehe)
You're welcome and thank you. It was awesome to watch, and perfect timing... almost as if they were performing for the camera ;) lol

Wow. Two of my tetras have done that about a week ago and one of them started to become very pudgy. Does this mean she is full of eggs? :dunno: I would love to have baby neons in my tank, but I am sure they'd be gone in like 2 seconds in my 120 gallon.

I saw this video last night...and guess what I've just witnessed in my own tank tonight?!!!! YUP! - Pretty much the same! :D
I know absolutely nothing about tetra breeding...gestation time, size of eggs etc...I guess they'd disappear in 2 seconds flat in my tank too mind...!

Great video

My neons have spawned once and the eggs didnt last 10seconds
