i have just brought 5 neon tetras and now three of them have just died 6 hours later. there is nothing wriong with the tank and they have shown no signs of disease. what could have happened to them

did you float the bag so the temps equalize? did you slowly introduce your tank water into the bag?

neon tets are incredibly sensitive to that stuff, and are furthermore inept to all kinds of other issues.

What was the ph of the store to the ph of your tank, neon tetra need a mature tank of six months.

This is somewhat of an overexaggeration. As long as your tank is stable, it doesn't matter if your tank is 'mature' for a month, 6 months, or 12 years, the conditions would be the same.

as already stated, acclimating is important. temp and ph shocks can kill fish. When i bring new fish home i put them and their water in a bucket that has never had soap or what ever in it and i add about a cup of my tank water every ten mintues for about 45 minutes. even if you get their temps matched by floating the bag, there still could be too much of a ph difference between your water and the lfs's water. ideally, if you have the space and extra tank you should quarantine them for a few weeks.
sorry for your loss

hi ever1 and thanks for getting back to me. yes i did float the bag for about half an hour and even put some tank water in the bag. they were all fine except one of my paradise fish were chasing them and i found one of them hanging from its mouth. could it have killed it? :(

i would say so if the paradise fish is bigger (i dont know never kept one) than the neons and they will fit into its mouth then they will have been eaten. You now have a choice of what to get rid of or want to keep the neons or the paradise fish. But i think you will get more tank mates with neons like plecs and guppys, mollies and platys.
