My own place!!! Niagara Falls, Ont.
I have a neon whose stomach now is almost the same shape as a balloon molly. I just fed the tank an hour ago, and though some of the other neons seem pleasantly plump and well-fed, this neon seems a little frightening. He/she is fairly bloated now. I separated it into a breeding net incase it's just a pig and ate too much so I can release it in the morning.
My first thought was dropsy, in which case I'll just take the neon back to the store for a replacement. In that case, I'd like to treat the rest of the tank to be on the safe side. What would I use? I have Melafix & Pimafix.
Tankmates are 5 other neons, 2 panda cories [third cory is missing, and presumed dead/eaten by tankmates as I've hunted everywhere for it and moved decorations], and 2 German Blue Rams.
Tank is planted with Rotala Indica, Moneywort, Anacharis, Red Ludwigia and Anubias Barteri v. Barteri. Black sand substrate, Aquaclear 200 filter.
Water parameters [as of 5 hours ago] are 0ppm Ammonia, 0ppm NitrIte, 5ppm NitrAte, pH 7.2.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll have an answer when I wake up in the morning, so I can deal with this. I'd really be happy if this isn't dropsy, but I'm more than willing to take whatever precautions I can. I've never dealt with dropsy in anything other than a betta before, and the neon's scales are so tiny that I can't tell if there's any pineconing.

Thanks!

When you say it is bloadted, do you mean the stomach or the whole fish. When my fish had dropsy the whole body was swollen...like really fat tail etc....kinda puffy.....

and yeah, pinconing happened. Though mine was a platy so scales were easy to see

Good luck

It's mostly just it's stomach. It seems to have gone down a bit since last night, so that it just looks like a really fat neon rather than a balloon molly. Hopefully it goes down even more by the time I get back from meeting with my prof.

Thanks :)

Dropsy can be caused by over feeding and to many dry foods, you will need to treat with an antibiotic if the scales are not sticking out yet.

There is one called tetracycline.
