Hello, I couple weeks back I noticed a neon tetra's eye was sticking out with a crusty thing around it, but I thought it had gone so I left it, yesterday I noticed it hadden't gone. I would of said something but I forgot. But when I went to feed them this morning I noticed the poor thing's eye was missing and instead of the eye there is an orange patch there! What should I do?
Thanks for any helpful replies

Keep the water clean and maybe add a splash of anti-bacterial meds. It should heal over. Many fish survive and live long lives with just one eye. Right now you have to make sure it doesn't get infected and that it heals properly.

I have a one eyed danio and he is absolutly fine
he is quite a characture as well.

I put some Meds in as you said Wuv, from what I think he look better.
They are all doomed anyway (neons), ive had at least one neon die, I have NTD in my tank, another one died aswell, but when my mum found it, it was half eaten.
Who else in my tank can catch it?

many fish are susceptible to NTD it is not just neons and cardinals that get it. I have heard that if you treat the tank with protozin that it will stop the spread of the disease but can not save the infected fish. Dont know that for a fact as i have not had the opportunity to check it out in real life *he knocks on wood*. perhaps another of our esteemed members can give you more info. HTH :)

Actually Cardinals are Immune from what I've heard. I've gone got some meds from fish shop which the fish man reccomended, he thinks its not NTD but something bacterial, cause I told him the worse one as gone a sort of brownish colour. Oh yeah on my last question can you be more specific. I want to know which of my fish can catch it.

dont know that for sure as i am unaware of ALL the fish that can catch this disease but i know that most tetras can as well as many barbs and rasboras. Angelfish have been known to catch it and i have heard that some livebearers have had this disease, although i have never seen this. HTH :)

EDIT: this is a fairly fast acting disease that will kill in a few days and the fish will be very slow moving. The LFS is probably right as there are a couple of bacterial diseases that give similar symptoms in neons. Keep us posted.

One of my black widow tetras has one eye he is doing ok though i think i got him like this he was possibly born this way
