I need help A.S.A.P My female Neon tetra's red looks faded, It's not bright red anymore, it looks like the color that they wake up from after the lights have been off. It's been about 3-4 days now. Does she have that one really bad Neon tetra diesease (forgot what it's called) :/

no response? My fish is still alive so that must mean that it does not have the diesase? Right???

the symtons of neon tetra diesese is for the red line to fade and then the fish becomes lifless and then passes away....as soon as it starts looking tired and lifeless i would take it out as its not restricted to NEON, all fish can get it just it was named after them for some reason (probably becoz they get it the most!) :) good luck!!!

it sounds like ntd.......sorry :-( have a look on this forum under disease topics & a google search & you will get loads more info. ntd is caused by a parasite & is contagious ( and not just to neons ) i used to have 14 neons a few years ago & sadly lost all of them to ntd. i tried isolating & treating with meds bought here in the uk but nothing worked. neons can live for quite while after contracting the disease.
it would be best to isolate your fish if possible & and maybe a treatment would work for you ( although the disease doesnt seem to respond well to treatment) if it gets worse or looks distressed/not eating the kindest thing to do would be to euthanase humanely.
sorry i dont have better news.

What are your test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, fading of the red can mean a number of things from poor water quality, saddleback columnaris, to ntd.

Sadly, it does sound like NTD to me. You may also notice bulges in the body of the fish or that they appear slightly deformed. I lost all 16 of my neons over a period of a year to this. The aflicted fish would seperate itself from the group and die over a period of a few days. It seemed to me that it was a rather unpleasant death for them and after seeing a few die this way I began to euthanize them as soon as I was certain that they had it. The disease seems to occur in cycles. I would lose 2 or 3 over a period of a week or so and then nothing for as long as a few months. I'm not sure if euthanizing them helped control the diease but I do believe that it was the humane thing to do.

Thanks for all your replies. Another one caught it, So yesterday I took out both of them. The first one that had it just died last night. The other one looks tired. ill fated :-(
