Hiya I have 5 neon tetras in a tank with 2 mickey mouse platys 2 female guppys and 2 kribs.
They have all been in same tank for about 3 months now but today I noticed 2 of my tetras are losing thier blue color all thats left of it is a light blue line.
Is this tetra disease and can I do anything for it.

Thanks

hi are your water params ok(ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc) neons can lose their colour from stress & sometimes go pale with lights out only to get their colour again when the lights have been on for a while.
we've lost a huge amount of neons to neon tetra disease and as you say one of the first signs is losing colour, a next sign is they tend to develop a kink in their tails and after that you usually have to euthanase....... we've never had success treating them with meds avail here in the uk ( we cant buy antibiotics over the counter). but you must isolate your sick tetras if poss as i believe it is contagious (please someone correct me if im wrong) and will spread. im sure its worth trying to treat them with some over the counter med esp if your in the usa where you have easier access to stronger treatments. that sif your SURE it is neon tetra disease not them just being stressed.
we are down to one lonely neon from 14 mainly from neon tetra disease & we will not be getting anymore as its heartbreaking watching them get sick & then having to euthanase.
good luck

The lights had been off for 14 hours as I have a female guppy about to give birth and once the light was put back on they started getting color back.
Im in UK and its near enough impossible to get decent plants or meds.
My water peramitors are all fine amonia and either nitrate or nitrite I get them mixed at 0 and the other being between 10 and 20.
